Chef Christina Tosi takes the cake when it comes to baking. Since November 2008, Tosi has become globally recognized for her award-winning dessert and pastry menu at Milk Bar.
Tosi’s menu ranges from the widely popular Cereal Milk ice cream flavor to her infamous Crack Pie, which is deliciously self-explanatory. The Milk Bar was created as a sister bakery to the Momofuku Restaurant Group.
Since the bakery was created, Milk Bar’s status continues to grow as “one of the most exciting bakeries in the country,” according to Bon Appétit Magazine. Just this year, Chef Tosi was presented the James Beard Outstanding Pastry Chef Award. The dessert guru’s reputation has been publicized by big names like NY Times, Vogue and Forbes, just to name a few.
In an interview with Adweek, Tosi thinks of Milk Bar’s mission as “bringing a creative and fun spirit to life.” The Milk Bar’s menu reflects Tosi’s fascinations with sweets as a child, particularly her notorious Cereal Milk ice cream. She was raised by her mother and grandmother, who both loved to bake. So is no surprise that Tosi became so wildly famous for her inspired flavors.
As of now, there are only Milk Bar locations in New York and Canada, but Tosi is in the process of opening one in Washington D.C. It’s no secret that customers want Milk Bar to expand nationally, but Tosi is content with the cities they currently populate.
“The most important thing is guarding the heart and soul of what we do and who we are, because that’s what makes the brand so special and why people take such a grand sense of ownership of it as customers. So the idea of having a Milk Bar in every city, for me, is like, why push it?” [Adweek]
Even though Milk Bar only has two locations, they ship anywhere in the U.S.! They naturally recommend next-day shipping to ensure a fresh delivery.
